Trauungsrede auf Englisch!

Dear bride and bridegroom,
dear witnesses to this marriage, (dear guests)!

I welcome you to your wedding here in the registrar's office in .!

First of all I want to apologize my bad English - this is my first marriage ceremony in English - but I promise to try and to do my very best. Unfortunately, may voice is not very good today, because I'm ill since a few days.

Dear bride and bridegroom,
this very special day for you two should make a wish, born in your hearts, come true.

Your fates are bound to one another from now on. May you overcome all obstacles which might lay in your way with mutual good will and be yourselves good companions in all situations of life.

May all good wishes and the pleasant expectations which you are looking forward to come true to the fullest extent.

Nobody knows the future. But you lay your hands and your trust in the hand of that person sitting next to you.

I ask you to consider even the bad days - they will come too. When you'll have a hard time finding the right words. Everything seems to be already discussed, everything seems to be wrong. We all know such situations. We all have experienced that problem.

Please try to remember, why you've been here today.
Please try to remember those lovely days, when you both wished, that your love would never end.
Please remember the days when you said: I want to share my life with you.

Therefore I wish you all the best to your decision and for your future.

Thomas Moore, an American musician living in Austria, wrote an Irish blessing, which explains what I'm wishing for you both:

May the road rise to meet you
May the winds be allways at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall softly on your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hands.

Now you'll make your decision to get married true.
I ask you now to stand up and answer my questions.

Dear ....., I ask you now, are you willing to enter into matrimony with ......., please answer with "yes".

Dear ......, I ask you now, are you willing to enter into matrimony with ......, please also say "yes".

You both have answered my questions with "yes" in the presence of your witnesses.
I declare that you are now legally married.

Mr. ... and Mrs .......,
as a sign to your love for you and for the whole world, I now ask you to exchange the rings.
The ring is a symbol of complete togetherness.
As you take this ring, it will remind you always of your new mutual beginning and your endless love for each other.

Congratulations Mrs. ....., congratulations Mr. ......
Mr. ......, you are now allowed to kiss your wife.

As it is usual to read the documents before signing, I want to read it now for you an for the witnesses. Afterwards dear bride, bridegroom and both witnesses, please step forward and sign this contract.

Dear bride, dear bridegroom, I hope you understood my words and their meaning. I once again want to excuse my bad english. But I want you to know that my words were coming from my heart.

At last I have a little poem from Erich Fried, which expresses what love is:

It's nonsense, says reason.
It is what it is, says love.

It's bad luck, says calculation.
It's nothing but pain, says fear.
It's hopeless, says understanding.
It is what it is, says love.

It's ridiculous, says pride.
It's foolish, says care.
It's impossible, says experience.
It is what it is, says love.

And so I wish you all the best in your life and for your common future.
May this hour and this day be in your memories for the rest of your shared life.
